Sp8 of the Art Wales…. Word from the street!

The Speight of the Art team in Wales have been really busy the last couple of months finding out all about the artistic heritage and creative identity that exists in the region, with the aim of setting up some new and groundbreaking artistic projects. We’ve done lots of research, but of course the people that we enjoy talking to the most are the children and young people living in the community!

Our younger generation have exposed how there is a huge and continual need for both greater creative opportunities for, and the nurturing and promotion of, the talented young children and teenagers living in Wales today.

The Questionnaires can be found here

Soon we will be unveiling exciting artistic plans that will reach children in Cardiff, the Rhondda Valley and West Wales. In the meantime, please take a moment to see below some examples of how the young people in the area feel about their own generation, and their relationship to art as a form of self expression. These are just a small cross section of the results we recovered, although they perfectly highlight in the children’s own words, the importance of art in both communities and the lives of young people. We hope by fulfilling the creative needs of young people in an exciting and innovative way that is dictated by the children themselves that we can build a better future for, and install a greater sense of aspiration within, the communities that we touch here in Wales.
