Coordinator for Somerset

Hello,

I'm Margaret and I'm the new SP8 district coordinator for Somerset.

I was born on Isle of Arran, Scotland and went to Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen where I gained a B.A (Hons) in Fine Art.

As a fine artist I have been involved in exhibitions all over the UK and also abroad and was a participating artist in the Built Environment Exhibition at Bridgwater Arts Centre (2006); Somerset Landscape Artists Exhibition, Trowbridge Gallery, Castle Cary (2008) and North Somerset Art Week (2009).

I have had solo exhibitions at Taunton Library and Sea Breeze Gallery, Burnham-on-Sea (summer 2008). Recently as a participating artist in River Brue Arts Festival (August 2008), I produced 3D work, and assisted in the planning and ran family workshops in the Apex park as part of that festival.

My work has also been sold to Ireland, Scotland and USA.

I have also been involved in primary education for a number of years as a teaching assistant and am now working as a Forest School Leader (BTEC 3 (Advanced) Forest School Leaders Qualification) with Reception through to Year 2 pupils. I am responsible for planning and delivering sessions. I also run an Art Club for Year 2 children at lunchtime and have been involved in another school as a visiting artist.

I am on SPAEDA’s Artists Portfolio Project and recently took part in ‘Safe Routes to School Project’ as part of their Voluntary EMERGE Placement Scheme, working with Year 6 children.

I decided to get involved with SP8 of the Art because I would love to have the opportunity to help provide and promote well planned and unique artistic activities for all children to take part in.

Margaret
