Although all has been quiet, on my blog, I have been working quietly away in the background, endeavouring to make initial inroads, in Scotland, with Speight of the Art.
My first idea was to get in touch with my own Director of Education, in Fife. I had planned to present, to the children, an opportunity to introduce Speight of the Art. I would then have used this opportunity to glean from the children, themselves, their own ideas of what they would like to do in art, if this opportunity were presented to them. As an ex-primary school teacher, I know the value this would have been for the children, and also how enthusiastic they always are to take on new ideas and approaches.
However, schools are very busy places – fund raising requests covering a wide spectrum of issues arrive frequently, organised competitions have to be often squeezed in, visitors with various connections are fitted in for talks, and then there is the daily demands being made on the curriculum - sadly, I was turned down with the above ideas, by the Director.
My next approach has been to Community Centres within Dundee. The response there, has been much more positive. However, I first have to focus on recruiting some volunteers to assist me, in this project. I am looking for people who have artistic skills to offer, who would be willing to lead workshops in Dundee and who would also be willing to help in local fund-raising activities and events.
If you see yourself, in this role, and have some time and commitment to offer to this project – I would be delighted to hear from you.. Please contact me, as soon as possible, through the website.
Meanwhile, when my current ideas are further on the road – I will be back in touch.
