Oliver's update - one year on....
The forthcoming week, commencing yesterday, the 5th April, with the official opening of the North Staffs regional activities at the MacDonald’s restaurant in the High Street of Newcastle under Lyme - under the auspices of Jilly Stubbs, our coordinator, will be a mixture of reflection, pride and exciting anticipation of glorious future for the children of the UK. It is, after all, the first anniversary of my beloved son’s death.
Do keep your eyes open for news stories, television interviews and media activity generally.
It is proposed that on:
Monday, the 6th, that I meet with the Press Association, then travel to Cardiff to join Lucinda Day – our Coordinator for Wales - at a reception at the All Nations Centre to promote awareness of the Foundation.
Tuesday, the anniversary to Mark’s death, results in as special journey for Mark’s sister, Tina and myself, followed by an afternoon at a SP8 of the Art workshop organised by Martin Murphy – our London Regional Coordinator.
Wednesday morning an interview on the BBC Breakfast Show is expected
and on
Easter Sunday Morning, it is forecast that I will appear on the Adam Boulton show on Sky TV. We will see. All can change at the last minute according to latest news impact received by the TV companies.
Also, hopefully, following an interview with the Sun last week a main article will appear in that newspaper on Tuesday morning.
All this publicity is designed to promote the work of the Foundation so that we can hopefully recruit more volunteers in each area to support our coordinators in their organisation of events, gain vital funding to support these events and reach parents, children and others - who by finding out about our Foundation may benefit from our activities. It is, after all, for the benefit of the children that we are working!
So what do I feel about the last 12 months and the direction in which I have guided the Foundation?
In a word, a great sense of pride and deep feeling of gratitude to all you wonderful people who have voluntarily supported our activities. I leave you with the following personal comment:
‘I never thought that the death of my son would fill my life with so much purpose. To realize and experience the love of those children who adored Mark the man and the performer is a lesson in humility.
I now know that my role in life is to fulfill his legacy and to pass on to the children of the UK an opportunity to realize their artistic dream! To that end, both the Foundation and myself personally are totally committed.’
THAT IS MY BELIEF AND DETERMINATION IN PERPETUITY!
