Hello all, Speight of the Art’s London region have an exciting event planned for the 9th July where we will be supporting national Art Week with our very own art extravaganza featuring some very special guests.
With the help of various Art Experts, The Gunnersbury School Jazz Band, CBBC’s SMart presenter and The One Show TV presenter Kirsten O’Brien, and Mike Fischetti, SP8 of the Art will host a range of activities / workshops for children at Alleyn’s School, Dulwich SE22. The workshops will include ‘Cartoon Capers’, ‘Secret Pixel Portrait’ and ‘Music & Colour’. A live ‘Urban Art’ demonstration and a special event involving radio controlled artwork will be part of the day culminating into a clever art show finale hosted by popular children’s TV presenters, Kirsten and Mike. Below is some more information about the activities going on and the artists involved.

1. Cartoon Capers – hosted by Jaquie Bernard: a fun-filled workshop illustrating features, characteristics and expressions where the children can be artistic and as silly as possible!

(Jaquie is a Freelance Artist and Tutor. Having graduated with a Degree in Fine Art from Winchester School of Art, Jaquie has shared exhibition space with Peter Paul Rubens and regularly exhibits with the Harrow Visual Arts Forum (HVAF). She also delivers workshops for The Museum of London and leads Harrow Schools’ Summer Art Schemes.)

2. Secret Pixel Portrait – hosted by Katherine Cuthbert: an exciting challenge for all the children to contribute towards creating a Pixel Portrait. The children will find out who when the final portrait is revealed!

(Katherine is an Artist working in both paint and ceramics. She lives and works in London, exhibiting at the GX Gallery in Camberwell, www.gxgallery.com. Katherine regularly runs workshops for children, teaches ‘Mosaics’ at Marlborough College Summer School and has worked with the Art Councils’ Creative Partnership Projects.)

3. Music and Colour – hosted by Isa Levy with The Gunnersbury School Jazz Band: Isa’s Art Workshops are a spontaneous and fun experience for children to explore and express rhythm, colour and mark-making in response to live music.

(Isa is a late starter to the visual arts, with a background as a performing Artist, however, when she did pick up a paintbrush in her early 40’s, some 400 paintings emerged. As she began her career as an Artist she set up workshops at the same time wanting to share the miracle of creativity with others. www.isalevy.co.uk.)

4. Urban Art – presented by The Artful Dodger (A. Dee): giving a live spray painting demonstration on canvas

(The ARTFUL DODGER (A. DEE) is widely credited with being one of the first Aerosol (Artists) Writers to come out of the UK in the early 1980s, making the successful transition from the streets to the corporate world including work for LucasFilm, BAA Heathrow Airport and MTV. A.Dee has also set up an Urban Arts Project in conjunction with The University Of The Arts for late summer called IDENTICONS, www.identiconarts.com which will incorporate spray-painting, digital graphics, urban music creation and creative writing for young people aged 14-19.)

5. Special Event: Popbang auto-drawing Radio controlled artwork- presented by Ian Cook: Ian will be creating a piece of work live using his unique form of painting!

(Ian has created artworks at major public motoring events. These include the London International Motor Show, Goodwood Festival of Speed and more recently the British Grand Prix. Last year, Ian was commissioned by Reebok to create a giant portrait of Lewis Hamilton in the run up to the Brazilian Grand Prix. The artwork created was the size of a three storey building and was hung next to Tower Bridge in Central London. This artwork is the largest to date, created entirely using the process of radio controlled painting.)
