Progress in Yorkshire
Just to let everyone know that even though things appear to have been quiet here in North Yorkshire I have been really busy! The children of Thirsk Community Primary have produced some great art work and plans are afoot for more out of school activities.
Unfortunately our application to the Arts Council for the PAINT (Producing Artists IN Thirsk) project got turned down. So I have been working hard to think about how we can move forward to find more creative opportunities for children.
I came up with the idea of PAINT Thursdays! We will be running an art club for the children of the Thirsk area from 5 - 6.30pm on Thursday nights starting in September at Thirsk Community Primary School. We are hoping to bring in specialist local artists to talk to the children and have visits to local galleries as well as explore lots of exciting visual media.
We will continue to run Get Arty sessions at the Thirsk Children's Centre for any tiny tots who like to get their hands into anything sticky and colourful.
I should also mention our very successful visits up to mima (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art). We took about 450 children and then ran follow up sessions in school based on the fantastic work seen in the gallery.
Keep watching this space as I have a lot of contacts to make later in the school holidays that I am hoping will create opportunities for some exciting events.
